5" diameter booms are linked together, forming a barrier along the perimeter of a marine-based oil spill. They float on open water and contain and absorb hydrocarbon-based fluids. Pads, rolls, and sweeps are deployed afterward to absorb the interior portion of the spill.
STRUCTURE:
1. Floats and end connectors made of heat-resistant steel; heat-resistant flexible sections between floats
2. The skirt in water is made of PVC double-face coated fabric or rubber.
3. Three tension members: Top wire of heat-resistant steel, middle strap belts and bottom ballast chain.
Closed cell foam buoyancy chamber makes boom less prone to sinking.
The boom is easy to store and deploy, taking up minimal storage space due to its ability to fold back on itself (concertina).
